Anubis

Anubis was often portrayed as weighing the soul with the scales of truth, and many assumed that made Anubis the God of the Dead.

Anubis, the enigmatic and powerful God of the Underworld in Egyptian mythology, stands as the preeminent leader of the Anunnaki, a divine race dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of death, the afterlife, and the unknown. The widespread worship of Anubis, even surpassing that of Osiris, her right hand, raises questions about her significance and the nature of her domain. Anubis's realm encompasses death, the underworld, and the afterlife, making her the focal point of the Anunnaki's pursuits.

In the mythology of Anunnakai, Anubis's homeworld, jackals played a crucial role in protecting the buried dead of the Anunnaki. These creatures, serving as a living link between dimensions, became symbolic representations of Anubis herself. The choice of a jackal as her avatar holds a deep connection to the Anunnaki's understanding of the transition between life and the Inbetween, the next phase of existence. Anubis, as the God of Death, embodies the mysteries that the Anunnaki seek to uncover, utilizing the jackal as a symbol of this cosmic connection.

Despite being the central figure in the Anunnaki hierarchy, Anubis often delegates matters of state to Osiris, who is considered the face of the Anunnaki. Anubis's focus lies on her studies, the preservation of lifeless bodies, and the intricate nature of the soul. She delves into profound questions about the soul's temperament and primordial inclinations, contemplating whether a soul's alignment with darkness or light influences its journey in the afterlife. The very essence of being truly Light or Truly Dark remains a puzzle for Anubis, challenging her to explore the boundaries of sin, virtue, and the quantification of these aspects within the soul.

In her pursuit of understanding the soul, Anubis invented the Scales, a divine instrument designed to measure the balance between sin and virtue within a soul. Osiris, serving as her right hand, wields these Scales on her behalf when dealing with matters of cosmic significance. However, in the hands of Anubis herself, the Scales transcend their role as mere measuring tools. As the lord of the Anunnaki, the God of Death, and the Master of Souls, Anubis transforms the Scales into one of the most powerful weapons in the cosmos.

The Scales, when manipulated by Anubis, go beyond their conventional purpose. They become conduits for understanding the deeper intricacies of the soul, revealing its connections to both light and darkness. Anubis, with her profound insight into the mysteries of existence, utilizes the Scales to navigate the complex interplay between virtue, sin, light, and darkness within the cosmic tapestry. Her mastery over the Scales allows her to unlock the secrets of the soul, shaping the destinies of those who pass into the afterlife.

Anubis's role as the steward of the dead and the guardian of the Inbetween positions her as a central figure in the cosmic order. While Osiris may be the face of the Anunnaki in external matters, Anubis remains the driving force behind their relentless pursuit of the unknown. Her profound questions about the soul and the delicate balance between light and darkness underscore her commitment to unraveling the mysteries that transcend mortal understanding. In the hands of Anubis, the Scales become not only tools of measurement but instruments of cosmic power, shaping the very fabric of existence within the realm of the Anunnaki and beyond.
